Placing the terms correctly
SCCM is the historically widespread name for System Center Configuration Manager. MECM was later used for Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager; today Microsoft Configuration Manager, or ConfigMgr for short, is common. In tenders and operations teams all three terms remain in use side by side.
- SCCM: the established project and market term
- MECM: still common in role profiles and operating documents
- ConfigMgr: the compact current product name
When the platform shows its value
The platform shows its value when many endpoints have to be supplied in a controlled, traceable way. This includes operating system deployment, application models, software distribution, content, patching and technical compliance.
- Windows 11 deployment and task sequences
- Applications, packages, collections and distribution points
- Patch processes, maintenance windows and diagnostics
Why the operating process matters more than the abbreviation
A stable service does not come from individual console actions. Changes have to be prepared, tested, distributed, monitored and documented so that operations teams can narrow down fault patterns repeatably.
- Make dependencies visible before changes
- Define pilot and distribution rings traceably
- Document diagnostic paths and the handover
Evidence from project practice
The publicly documented engagements at BGW, BRITA and Universität Hamburg show different fields of application: live MECM operations, international architecture, and rollout and OSD contexts. Only confirmed areas of responsibility are published.
- BGW: Windows 11, software distribution, patching and troubleshooting
- BRITA: architecture, images, drivers, packages and content distribution
- Universität Hamburg: SCCM, MDT, USMT and rollout context
Matching project evidence
January 2025 — present
BGW
I support Windows 11 deployment, software distribution, patch management and troubleshooting within the MECM processes.
January 2021 — February 2022
BRITA GmbH
I designed and implemented MECM building blocks for images, drivers, software and cross-site content distribution.
January 2013 — March 2013
Universität Hamburg
I created an SCCM rollout concept and technical deployment building blocks for a target of 1,200 clients.
Windows 11 rollouts rarely fail because of the task sequence — usually it is the dependencies behind it: applications, content, maintenance windows, support. That is exactly where I start.
