BRITA GmbH · Endpoint Management · January 2021 — February 2022

BRITA GmbHMECM Consultant

I designed and implemented MECM building blocks for images, drivers, software and cross-site content distribution.

Endpoint Management
BRITA GmbH: Abstract global deployment rings with distributed endpoints

Situation

International sites needed a common endpoint platform even though network conditions, hardware and local operating realities differed. Images, drivers, applications and content had to be usable worldwide without losing control of the central architecture.

Constraints

  • International sites with differing network conditions
  • Various hardware models and local rollout requirements
  • Central standards combined with manageable content distribution

My scope of responsibility

As a freelance MECM Consultant I designed and implemented the platform from the architecture model through to rollout. I was responsible for zero-touch images, driver catalogues, software packages, distribution, bandwidth tests and integration into monitoring and change processes.

Documented scope of work

Key decisions

Build images, drivers and applications modularly rather than per site. Reusable building blocks reduce the number of variants and make errors reproducible across sites.

Treat cloud distribution and bandwidth tests as part of the rollout design. A global architecture only proves itself once content arrives in a controlled way under real site conditions.

  1. I designed and installed the MECM architecture for the headquarters and international sites.
  2. I developed zero-touch images, driver catalogues and software packages through to technical release.
  3. I integrated cross-site content distribution and carried out bandwidth tests.
  4. Monitoring and change documentation were incorporated into the described operating process.

Technology in use

MECM

MECM was the platform for images, drivers, applications and distribution.

PowerShell

PowerShell supported validation, offline updates and repeatable work steps.

Windows 10

Windows 10 images were developed as reusable zero-touch building blocks.

Content Distribution

Content flows were integrated for international sites and tested under bandwidth constraints.

ITSM

Monitoring and change documentation were embedded in the ongoing process.

Evidence and limits

The MECM architecture was implemented together with zero-touch images, driver catalogues, software packages and cross-site content distribution for the headquarters and international sites.

Zero-touch images, driver catalogues, software packages and content distribution

Lesson from the engagement

Global endpoint management rarely fails because of the image alone; what decides it is content flows, hardware variants, monitoring and a clean operating process.
