01 · Starting point
Situation
An existing Exchange 2003 environment was to be migrated to Exchange 2007. Prerequisites, compatibility, data transfer and later operations had to be secured in advance.
Constraints
- Changes within an already established IT environment
- Short, clearly scoped engagement
- Internal system and operating details remain confidential
02 · Responsibility
My scope of responsibility
I reviewed the source environment, installed and configured Exchange 2007, migrated messaging objects and ran tests and training.
- I tested the target environment and trained users and administrators.
03 · Technical work
Documented scope of work
Key decisions
Use compatibility and functional tests as mandatory steps before and after every migration phase. This made it possible to verify prerequisites and results separately before the new environment was handed over to users and administrators.
- I reviewed the Exchange 2003 source environment and prepared the migration.
- I installed Exchange 2007 and migrated emails, mailboxes, distribution groups and other objects.
